Ipswich City of Culture 2029

We are supporting Ipswich’s bid for UK City of Culture 2029, working in partnership with DanceEast and Ipswich Central to help shape a clear, ambitious and place-led cultural vision.

The UK City of Culture programme is one of the most significant cultural development opportunities for towns and cities across the country. More than a year of cultural celebration, it acts as a catalyst for long-term investment, partnership-building and renewed civic confidence - enabling places to tell their story on a national stage while strengthening local cultural infrastructure and participation.

For places like Ipswich, the process is as important as the outcome. The bid creates a framework to bring together cultural organisations, businesses, communities and civic leadership around a shared ambition - articulating identity, recognising local strengths and setting a direction for the future.

Our role has been to oversee, support and challenge the development of the bid - working closely with partners to shape a compelling narrative that reflects Ipswich’s character, potential and ambition. This has involved guiding the vision, testing ideas, and ensuring the proposal is both grounded in place and confident in its national and international relevance.

We’re pleased that Ipswich has been selected for the longlist stage, recognising both the strength of its cultural ecology and the ambition of its vision.

As the process moves forward, we look forward to continuing to support Ipswich in refining its proposal and building towards the next phase.
